Huntington Beach has become a
west coast destination for more than 8 million annual visitors. HB was popularized in the 1960s as
"Surf
City" by the surf band
Jan & Dean.
The city lives up to its nickname with some of the best
surfing in California. The US Open
of surfing is held each July south of the Pier. The “HB Pier” is
the longest and newest pier in California, and the Pierside
Amphitheater features live public entertainment most weekends
in the summer.
The shoreline is 8.5 miles long. The pristine City Beach is
3.5 miles and up to 100 yards wide. A quarter mile stretch of
the beach
is designated as “Doggie Beach”; the only other "dog" beach in
Southern California is in San Diego.
The Main Street area (also
known as "Downtown HB"), was mostly remodeled in the 1990s
and continues to be improved to this day. This area includes
the HB Pier, Main Street Library, Art Center, and features many restaurants
and shops to enjoy. There is only one
development of small condominiums on the sand in Downtown HB (just North of
the HB Pier). Thousands of other beach close condominiums,
townhouses, and houses are located in Downtown HB; North and
East along Pacific Coast Highway.
A noteworthy area
of HB is Huntington Harbour,
a man-made harbor dedicated primarily to
residential use with over one thousand waterfront homes, including:
Condominiums, Townhouses, and detached Houses.
Most waterfront homes include a private boat dock
ranging in size from 30 feet to over 150 feet.
There are four public marinas as well as the "Bay & Racquet
Club" and "Huntington Harbour Yacht Club".
Huntington Harbor is located adjacent to the beach front communities of Surfside
and Sunset Beach.
Most areas of Huntington Harbour fall within the city limits
of Huntington Beach; however, some portions are
unincorporated.
Huntington Harbour is the closest public marina to the
“Island of Romance” (Catalina Island), with its beautiful and
historic Avalon Harbour. For information about buying or
leasing in Huntington Harbour,
Many people outside
Huntington Beach are not aware of Huntington Beach's Central Park;
the largest city-owned park in Orange County comprising over 350
acres. The Central Park has many amenities,
including:
